It's official: Donald Trump will be America's next president.
Donald Trump dealt Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton a crushing blow on election night, winning not only traditionally red states but a number of blue Rust Belt states as well. Trump's anti-establishment creed rang out loud and clear across America as swing state after swing state fell his way.
The defeat is nothing short of devastating for Clinton. The Democratic nominee suffered the worst election electoral loss in recent years despite being backed by the majority of America's political, economic and entertainment apparatus. Trump's populist message and promises of American exceptionalism resonated with voters in ways Clinton simply never matched.
Trump's victory will certainly go down as one of the most astounding in American history. He was counted out at nearly every turn in the election -- many times by his own party. A senior Trump adviser is on record as recently as Tuesday afternoon saying it would take a "miracle" for him to win. Miracle achieved.
For Americans, Trump's victory begs just as many questions as it answers. Will he maintain his hard-line stance on immigration once he's in office? What are his plans -- specifically -- for healthcare? How will markets react to his disruptive message on trade?
Questions will persist long after the champagne at Trump headquarters fizzles out tonight. But for now, this much is certain: Donald Trump will be America's next president.
