Voter Tom Garrecht reportedly knocked Donna Tatlici to the ground after Tatlici pepper sprayed him outside the Jupiter Community Center voting site in Florida on Nov. 8 (video below).
"And a man walked up, and I said, 'Republican down ballot,'" Tatlici, a Republican campaign volunteer, told the Palm Beach Post. "And he screamed at me, 'I don’t need anyone to tell me who to vote for!' I said, 'I'm not here to do that. I’m just here to give you the information.'"
"Then she yelled at me, I yelled at her," Garrecht says. "She was calling me names."
Garrecht went into the center to vote, and walked back outside.
Garrecht told WPBF, "She’s talking to somebody else and says, 'That’s little man. Yeah. That’s a little man,’ and a derogatory term that I won’t repeat on TV."
Tatlici said she warned Garrecht she was armed with pepper spray, the two argued, she sprayed him and he started punching her.
"After she sprayed me, I went after her swinging," Garrecht said. "At that point I couldn't see. I was just swinging, trying to knock it out of her hand."
Police came to the scene soon after the altercation.
"Campaign people were approaching people walking into the building, and I don’t know if he got too close to her or not," said Dave Mareiniss, a witness.
"I believe that everybody has the right to vote, to believe in what they believe in," added Annette Lumetta, another witness. "This is America. We have an opinion, and by the grace of God, we have our freedom, and it should never get to this."
