Donald Trump Fires Back At Ted Cruz For His 'Very Insulting' Remarks On 'New York Values' (Video)

During the sixth Republican presidential debate on Jan. 14, Donald Trump did not let Sen. Ted Cruz’s "very insulting" remarks on "New York values" go by without a strong rebuttal (video below).

“I think people know exactly what New York values are,” Cruz said, after being questioned as to what he meant previously when he said Trump “embodies New York values.” He said, “There are many, many wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal, are pro-abortion, are pro-gay marriage, and focus around money and the media.”

“The concept of New York values is not that complicated to figure out … Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan,” Cruz added.

Trump, maintaining his composure, immediately fired back at Cruz.

“Conservatives actually do come out of Manhattan,” Trump said. “Because he insulted a lot of people I’ve had more calls on that statement that Ted made.”

“New York is a great place, it’s got great people, loving people, wonderful people,” Trump added.

He then used 9/11 as a an example of “New York values.”

“When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, or humanely than New York … The people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death, and even the smell of death … and we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers.”

“That is a very insulting statement that Ted made," Trump said.

Mike Lupica, a columnist for the New York Daily News, had plenty to say about Cruz’s remarks, but one comment in his op-ed sums his feelings up nicely.

From New York City to Cruz, “Get lost,” Lupica wrote, after calling him a “career jackass.”

Republican Rep. Pete King from New York expressed a similar sentiment.

“Memo to Ted Cruz,” King said in a statement obtained by the New York Daily News. “New York values are the heroes of 9/11; the cops who fight terror; and the people you ask for campaign donations. Go back under a rock.”
