Trump Denies Polling Nosedive

In little more than a month, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has gone from a virtual tie with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in national polls to a drop that sees him losing by double-digits in some polls. Yet, to hear it from Trump, he remains as competitive as ever.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Naples, Florida, on Oct. 23, Trump bashed polls at the same time that he maintained a strong position in them, notes Politico.

“I’ll tell you what, we’re doing well in the polls, but you know, I really think those polls are very inaccurate,” Trump said. “When it comes to women, I think we’re doing better with women than with men. So we’re setting records with men. But I want to set records with women. I hate to tell the men this, but if I could swap, I’d swap you out so fast, you have no idea how fast.”

Trump has always struggled with the women’s vote throughout his campaign, but since a slew of sexual assault allegations (from 12 women thus far) have surfaced, in addition to a leaked video in which Trump details acts of sexual assault, his favorability with women has plummeted.

According to FiveThirtyEight, national poll averages show Trump losing the women’s vote by 15 percentage points -- though, some polls (Quinnipiac, PRRI/The Atlantic) have Trump losing by 20 or even 33 percentage points, respectively.

Furthermore, if the election was held with just women voting, Trump would win 80 electoral college votes, and Clinton would pull 458. A candidate only needs 270 to win.

In general polls, Trump still lags far behind Clinton. In Florida, a state Trump will need to carry in order to win the White House, a CBS poll released Oct. 23 shows Clinton leading Trump by 3 percentage points, notes Politico.

In the meantime, Trump is drumming up his message that the if he loses the election, it is because the vote was stolen by Clinton.

"The people here, I think you understand it,” Trump told the crowd in Naples, Florida. “We’re in a rigged system, we’re in a broken and corrupt system and Bernie Sanders was in a rigged system…”
