Robert De Niro, who frequently goes after President Donald Trump on SNL, said he considers his criticism of the President his “civic duty.”
It’s no longer news that De Niro is not a fan of President Trump. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, De Niro lashed out at Trump once again. When asked about his appearances on SNL, De Niro was blunt about his intentions, saying his jabs at the President are not for laughs.
De Niro confessed how he wants to see President Trump behind bars in the near future saying, “I might even be happier the day that Mueller puts him in handcuffs, takes him in an orange jumpsuit and puts him away for a long time.”
However, De Niro didn’t stop there, further expressing an in-depth criticism about attorney general William Barr’s summary of the Mueller report which he described as “pathetic.” He claimed that the public won’t stand for information that isn’t delivered carefully and transparently. He also said he foresees mass demonstrations if the details of the Mueller report remain opaque to the public for any longer.
Most people are afraid of the consequences that come with attacking a public figure, let alone the President of the United States. But that is not true of De Niro who bluntly criticizes the President at every opportunity. Nothing seems to be able to faze him and it seems like this won’t be changing any time soon.
