GOP nominee Donald Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway has accused Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton of being a serial liar, asserting that the candidate only has herself to blame for the FBI’s recent disclosure of new emails that may be related to her use of a private server.
On Oct. 31, Conway stated that Democrats who are enraged by FBI Director James Comey’s decision to publicly disclose that his bureau is investigating new emails that may or may not involve Clinton only have themselves to blame.
“The Democrats own Hillary Clinton,” Conway told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” according to Politico. “They made a huge mistake by nominating someone they know is a serial liar, has a history of having a casual relationship with the truth, of always putting Hillary first.”
On Oct. 28, Comey threw a wrench into the presidential election by telling lawmakers that his bureau had discovered new emails that could be related to an investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving at the State Department.
The roughly 650,000 emails were found on former congressman Anthony Weiner’s laptop, which was seized by the FBI in a probe into whether or not the disgraced lawmaker had inappropriate communications with a minor, Forbes reports.
Trump has seized on the new development, stating during a Las Vegas rally on Oct. 30 “We never thought we were going to say thank you Anthony Weiner.”
The FBI has not yet investigated the contents of Weiner’s emails and did not obtain a warrant to do so until Oct. 30. Comey’s decision to comment on what could prove to be irrelevant evidence has drawn fierce criticism.
“He might have taken the first step of actually having looked at them before he did this in the middle of a presidential campaign, so close to the voting,” said Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.
The Clinton campaign has called for Comey to release more information to help Americans make an informed opinion of the new evidence.
Conway asserted that the Clinton campaign’s calls for more transparency are disingenuous and said American voters do not “need this ethical stain that has been Bill and Hillary Clinton for decades now to continue.”
On Conway’s charge that Clinton is a serial liar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning PolitiFact has graded the Democratic nominee’s statements for honesty throughout the 2016 presidential election.
The fact-checker found that Clinton’s statements have been true, mostly true, or at least half true 73 percent of the time. The Democratic nominee’s statements have been mostly false, false or a Pants on Fire 26 percent of the time.
Meanwhile, Trump’s statements have been graded to be true, mostly true or half true 30 percent of the time. The fact-checker found that the business mogul’s statements have been mostly false, false or a Pants on Fire 70 percent of the time.
