Trey Gowdy Asks Again For Clinton To Appear Before Benghazi Panel

Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina has again asked former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to sit down for a closed-door interview with the Benghazi panel to answer questions on the email scandal that began earlier this year.

At the end of March, Gowdy sent Clinton, currently a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, to take part in a “transcribed interview regarding her use of private email and a personal server for official State Department business,” Politico reported.

Republicans allege that Clinton may have deleted emails connected to the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, wherein four Americans were murdered.

“This Committee is left with no alternative but to request Secretary Clinton appear before this Committee for a transcribed interview to better understand decisions the Secretary made relevant to the creation, maintenance, retention, and ultimately deletion of public records,” Gowdy wrote in March.

Appearing earlier today (April 22) on Fox News, Gowdy continued his request for Clinton’s cooperation on the matter. He also suggested that Clinton appear twice for interviews in front of the Select Committee on Benghazi before a deadline of May 1.

“The first time would be about the email arrangement she had with herself, because at the end of that conversation, we need to assure ourselves that we have every document that we’re entitled to as it relates to Libya and Benghazi,” Gowdy said, according to The Washington Times.

Just has Gowdy has repeatedly questioned Clinton’s actions, Democrats in the House are now criticizing and questioning Gowdy’s behavior, especially since Clinton is running for presidency.

“Unfortunately, it appears that the Select Committee on Benghazi has now become a taxpayer-funded effort to damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president,” Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland wrote to USA Today on April 16. “The Committee has had Secretary Clinton’s Benghazi-related e-mails for weeks, and she has been ready to testify in public for more than six months. Yet Republicans refuse to schedule her hearing and continue to squander millions of taxpayer dollars drawing out these proceedings as long as possible.”
