The Toronto City Council met today to strip away Mayor Rob Ford's powers, but he wasn't going down without a fight, literally.
At one point during the meeting, Mayor Ford ran around the council chamber and crashed into councillor Pam McConnell, who nearly fell all the way to the floor, noted CTVNews.ca (video below).
McConnell was later seen holding ice to her face.
Ford has been called on to resign after recently admitting to smoking crack cocaine and being drunk at public events.
Toronto's City Council voted today to transfer most of Mayor Ford's powers to Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly.
Before the votes, Mayor Ford said the actions to limit his powers as “nothing more than a coup d’etat" and compared the City Council to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein invading Kuwait.
“And [Pres. George H.W.] Bush said, ‘I warn you, I warn you, I warn you, do not,’" said Mayor Ford. "Well folks, if you think American-style politics is nasty, you guys have just attacked Kuwait.”
Mayor Ford called the vote “a battle that we lost today,” but said “the war is not done, this is just the beginning.”
Ford, who refuses to resign and plans to run for re-election in 2014, recently bragged about his honesty during an interview with CNN (video below).
"If someone would have said, came up to me and said, 'Have you ever smoked crack? Have you ever smoked weed? I would have said, 'Yeah, I have,' " said Mayor Ford. "But when you come and accuse me of being a crack addict and say, 'Do you smoke crack?' No I don't. Have I? Yeah, OK. Have I drank, have I acted like an idiot when I drank? Yeah, I did."
"My specialty is taking care of people that have been totally ignored their whole life, and I'm not going to stop doing it," added the combative politician.
