Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas lashed out at GOP front-runner Donald Trump during a campaign stop in Dane, Wisconsin, on March 24 (video below).
Cruz was upset that Trump had retweeted a picture demeaning Cruz's wife, Heidi, on March 23, Raw Story notes.
"It’s not easy to tick me off, I don’t get angry often," Cruz said. "But you mess with my wife, you mess with my kids, that’ll do it every time! Donald, you’re a sniveling coward, and leave Heidi the hell alone!”
Cruz was asked by a reporter if he would still support Trump if the billionaire were to be the GOP presidential nominee.
After a pause, Cruz replied, “I’m gonna beat him for the nomination."
When the reporter said he wasn't answering the question, Cruz fired back: “I am answering the question. Donald Trump will not be the nominee.”
The reporter told Cruz that Trump was leading, but Cruz insisted, “Donald Trump will not be the nominee.”
Trump responded to Cruz on Twitter.
"I didn't start the fight with Lyin' Ted Cruz over the GQ cover pic of Melania, he did," Trump wrote on March 24. "He knew the PAC was putting it out - hence, Lyin' Ted!"
Cruz went on to bash Trump at his March 24 campaign stop:
When he gets scared, he screams, he yells, often he curses. And he insults and attacks whoever is standing near him. And you're right, Donald does seem to have an issue with women. Donald doesn't like strong women.
Strong women scare Donald. Now, Donald is scared a lot these days. Donald is scared to debate. He ran away from the last debate that was scheduled because he was scared of Megan Kelly and because he was scared to defend his policies.
Listen, Donald doesn't now much about foreign policy. The day before the Brussels terror attack, Donald called for America to effectively withdraw from NATO. That is utter foolishness, it would hand a massive victory to Putin and to ISIS.
During an editorial meeting with The Washington Post on March 21, Trump said that American involvement in NATO may need to be reduced over the next few years, adding, "We certainly can’t afford to do this anymore."
"NATO is costing us a fortune, and yes, we’re protecting Europe with NATO, but we’re spending a lot of money," Trump added.
