While the Tea Party battles accusations of racism against minorities -- especially President Obama -- it has taken down a billboard that compared Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin.
The sign in Mason City, Iowa showed photographs of Obama, Nazi leader Hitler and communist leader Lenin beneath the labels "Democrat Socialism," "National Socialism," and "Marxist Socialism." The North Iowa Tea Party paid for the sign.
But on Tuesday night, a representative of the local party called the company that owns the billboard and asked that it be removed, according to Kent Beatty, the general manager of the company.
The sign may have been too much even for the Tea Party, which has been accused of having racist strains by the NCAAP.
Some Tea Party members criticized the billboard, and even North Iowa Tea Party co-founder Bob Johnson acknowledged the pictures overwhelmed the intended message of anti-socialism.
By Wednesday morning the sign was gone, replaced with a public service announcement.
