Did Obama Wince As Trump Spoke? (Photos/Video)

Did former President Barack Obama wince during President Donald Trump's inauguration speech (video below) and does it even matter?

Those are some of the questions the internet is debating as the country swore in its new president on Jan. 20.

Despite his best efforts not to, some claim Obama visibly winced and arguably held back his disapproval during Trump's inauguration speech.

Cameras focused on Obama's almost pokerlike face as Trump delivered his speech criticizing Washington, D.C., TMZ reports.

Obama, biting his lip, maintains a straight face until Trump denounces the country as weak, proclaiming it will now become great again, CNN reports.

"For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry," said Trump, as Obama looked on, "subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military; we've defended other nation's borders while refusing to defend our own."

At that point, many say Obama's face betrays his emotions -- some claim he winces, others wonder if he is holding back amusement.

Whatever the reason, it appears public responses to the change in Obama's facial expression reflect the deep divisions the country is facing.

"Yeah pretty sure a [lot] of us were making that face too!" wrote one commenter on TMZ's Facebook page.

"Lol, the same look half of America has been giving obama for 8 long years," chimed in another. "Karma! Now he knows what its like on the other side."

Others claim some, including the media, are making a big deal out of nothing -- which some find harmful.

"Stop," wrote another user. "Just Stop. I am not a fan of Trump but Obama's face probably has more to do with the cold rain and less to do with the speech."

"There is enough negativity right now let's not believe more fake news!" added another, while other users echoed similar sentiments.

"Gossip is the worst in journalism," responded one woman. "How does anyone know what is on his mind? He could be thinking of anything but Trump. Please spread news that matters."

Regardless of speculation, one thing is clear: Whatever he may truly feel, so far, Obama has spoken of nothing except wishing the new president the best.

“We’re all rooting for his success," said Obama on Nov. 9, the day after Trump won the 2016 presidential election, reports Quartz.
