Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas held a rally at the Life Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on Dec. 18. After the rally, one of his supporters explained how President Barack Obama had ruined the U.S. and Christmas, which was one week away (video below).
The Cruz supporter told C-SPAN:
"[I don't] like Obama no more. He’s ruined our country, he's ruined Christmas. He’s let the Muslims in. We can’t say that word. We’ve got to be ashamed of it. And we’re not ashamed people. We’re a proud people. And we’re gonna take our country back. So watch out, Obama! We're coming!"
A C-SPAN reporter asked the Cruz supporter exactly how Obama had ruined Christmas and America, and she replied, “He’s scared the little children. They’re not allowed to have Santa Claus in the schools where, you know, it might offend the Muslims. But what about us?”
According to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll earlier this month, Cruz polled at 22 percent among Republicans, second only to Trump, who had 27 percent.
The Wall Street Journal noted: "Cruz’s strategy of trying to build support among evangelical Christians, tea party supporters and other conservatives is working."
