Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced today on the Senate floor that he would "speak against Obamacare until I am no longer able to stand.”
But less than four hours into his fake filibuster, he yielded the Senate floor to his only supporter, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who also bashed Obamacare. He later handed the reins back to Sen. Cruz.
Sen. Cruz's speech is not a filibuster unless it delays Senate business, which doesn't begin until tomorrow morning when the Senate will vote on the Continuing Resolution to fund the U.S. government, notes the National Journal.
That vote can only be stopped if 41 senators object, which is nearly impossible as most of Sen. Cruz's fellow Republicans have abandoned him.
During his opening speech, Sen. Cruz compared Obamacare and its supporters to slavery and Nazi sympathizers (video below).
“I suspect those same pundits who say it can’t be done, if it had been in the 1940s we would have been listening to them. Then they would have made television. They would have gotten beyond carrier pigeons and beyond letters and they would have been on TV and they would have been saying, ‘You cannot defeat the Germans,’” claimed Sen. Cruz.
