Reality TV star and former half-term Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, brought a lot of Sarah Palin-ness to CPAC on Saturday. Speaking in front of a crowd that just couldn’t get enough of her, the most rogue rogue of all the rogues in the land received a noticeably warmer reception than any of the other big name presenters that appeared before her.
Palin spoke out against New York’s proposed soda ban, President Barack Obama’s tendency to use teleprompters, D.C.’s current political ruling class and other similarly vital issues facing Americans today. The 49-year-old’s biggest applause lines of the day, however, came when she hit on the most polarizing topic around: guns.
“Background checks? Yeah, I guess to learn more about a person’s thinking and associations and intentions. More background checks?” she said. “Dandy idea, Mr. President — should have started with yours.”
And then she topped that with the most Sarah Palin-esque quote you will hear this week (via RingWingWatch):
“You should have seen what Todd got me for Christmas. Well, It wasn’t that exciting. It was a metal rack, case for hunting rifles to put on the back of a four-wheeler. Then though, I had to get something for him to put in the gun case, right. So, this go around, he’s got the rifle, I got the rack.”
