Republican Rep. Ed Royce Files for Reelection in Wrong District

Veteran California Republican Rep. Ed Royce filed for reelection in the wrong district last week, but has since corrected the “typo.”

Royce filed a statement of candidacy for the 40th Congressional District, the one that he represented during the 2000s, instead of the current redrawn 39th district. The current 40th district is represented by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, with a 47 point Democratic registration advantage.

Royce has represented the 39th district since 2012. The 39th district includes Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties where Royce won reelection last year.

The campaign was quick to correct the filing on Friday, followed by a statement from Royce consultant Dave Gilliard.

“He’s running in the 39th,” Gilliard said, blaming the problem on a typo.

Royce has served in the House for 20 years and currently chairs the House Foreign Relations Committee.
