Rep. Michele Bachmann Claims US Has Declared 'Economic War' on Israel (Audio)

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) recently made the false claim that the U.S. has declared a "war and economic war against Israel."

In reality, Secretary of State John Kerry suggested that if Mideast peace talks break down, then Israel might face economic boycotts, which he did not advocate.

Israel’s Finance Minister Yair Lapid has made a very similar statement, notes The Independent.

“If the negotiations with the Palestinians get stuck or break down and we enter a reality of a European boycott, even a very partial one, Israel’s economy will retreat backward and every Israeli citizen will feel it straight in the pocket,” said Lapid.

However, Rep. Bachmann ignored Lapid's comments, and slammed Kerry and President Obama during an interview with Family Research Council's Tony Perkins on his "Washington Watch" radio show on Friday, reports (audio below).

“President Obama and John Kerry have preferred Iran," Rep. Bachmann claimed. “At the same time while the United States is giving a free pass to Iran, our Secretary of State is rattling a saber and effectively calling for an economic war against our greatest ally Israel. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Rep. Bachmann was not able to prove her false claim that the U.S. was "giving a free pass to Iran," but continued.

“They can’t have it both ways, they can’t say that they are pro-Israel and stand with Israel while calling for actual war and economic war against Israel, or at least suggesting it as such,” added Rep. Bachmann.
