Rep. Michele Bachmann claimed today on CNN that she lost her health insurance because of Obamacare.
When asked by CNN host Wolf Blitzer if she was going to sign up for health insurance on the Obamacare website, Rep. Bachmann stated, "Are you kidding? I’m not gonna waste an hour on that thing" (video below).
"I lost my health insurance under Obamacare," added Rep. Bachmann. "And so now I'm forced to go into the D.C. health care exchange. I'm waiting until they fix this thing. I'm not going to sit there and frustrate myself... I have a husband with very significant health issues, we have to have health insurance."
According to Mediaite.com, guest Paul Begala piped in, “And now you can’t be denied. Thanks, Barack Obama! And now you can't be discriminated against.”
“We were just fine before.” insisted Rep. Bachmann. "We don't need to destroy the health care system for 330 million."
However, Rep. Bachmann failed to mention the 50 million Americans who are uninsured.
Over at Fox News, Chris Stirewalt repeated the false GOP claim that Obamacare is "government run health insurance," noted MediaMatters.org.
"One wonders for the people who are now compelled against their wishes to purchase government run health insurance," said Stirewalt.
The false claim that Obamacare is government run health insurance has been around for years, even though The Washington Post reported in 2011:
[Obamacare] builds on the existing private insurance system but adds requirements and incentives to ensure that most people have some form of health insurance.
Under the new law, there is no government alternative to the private system--this was a potential provision that was dropped during the congressional tussle--but the number of people who qualify for the existing federal-state Medicaid program for the poor will be expanded.
