Rep. Martha Roby Asks Hillary Clinton If She Was 'Alone' On Night Of Benghazi, Laughter Follows (Video)

Republican Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama asked Hillary Clinton if she was alone the "whole night" of the Benghazi attack during a House committee hearing on Oct. 22. The question brought laughter from Clinton and others present (video below).

"And who else was at your home, were you alone?" Roby asked the Democratic presidential candidate, notes The Hill.

“I was alone, yes,” Clinton told Roby.

“The whole night?” Roby probed.

Clinton looked surprised, laughed and said, “Well, yes, the whole night.”

“I don’t know why that’s funny,” Roby scolded her, while rephrasing the question. “Did you have any in-person briefings? I don’t find it funny at all.”

“I’m sorry, a little note of levity at 7:15," Clinton added. "Note it for the record.”

Roby was mocked numerous times on Twitter for her original question.

Roby claimed that because Americans were in danger in Libya, on the other side of the world, her question about who was at Clinton's private residence in Washington D.C. was somehow relevant.

“So I don’t think it’s funny to ask if you’re alone the whole night,” Roby fumed.

Clinton replied:

Well, congresswoman, congresswoman, you asked if I had a skiff. I had secure phones. I had other equipment that kept me in touch with the State Department at all times. I did not sleep all night. I was very much focused on what we were doing.

Roby then cut Clinton off from answering her very important question, and tossed another one at her about whether a State Department employee was still at work when she (Clinton) left to go home.

After the House hearing, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, who chairs the committee, was asked by a reporter what "new things you learned today," notes (video below).

After an awkward pause, Gowdy said:

Uhhhh, I think some of Jimmy Jordan’s questioning — well, when you say "new today," we knew some of that already. We knew about the emails. In terms of her testimony? I don’t know that she testified that much differently today than she has the previous times she testified.
