Rep. Louie Gohmert: Iran Nuclear Deal Will Be 'Downfall' Of Israel, US (Video)

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas appeared on "WallBuilders Live" radio show on May 4, which was hosted by debunked Christian historianDavid Barton.

The Republican congressman lamented that some members of the Senate are wimps and not trying to stop President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran, noted (video below)

Gohmert stated Obama's deal with Iran was actually a "treaty" and "should require the Senate confirmation and consent."

Gohmert also said:

"I know that there are some wimpy people in the Senate that are afraid to confront Obama, but hopefully they'll stand up and do the right thing when it comes to something that really could be one of those things if they and continue to be wimps and not stand up to the president in the Senate and in our House leadership, then then that will be written up as the downfall of Israel and the United States.

"I think Israel is going to come through, by the grace of God, but if we are this stupid in helping our enemy come after us, then we would be, in the histor-, in the eyes of history, deserving of what we get. I don't want to be deserving of that, we have got to stop them."

Later, Barton said the U.S. had to support Israel at all costs, and that should be the No. 1 issue of the 2016 election above U.S. education, the economy and defense to get God's blessing based on one verse in the Bible.

According to the White House website:

"The new JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) framework will reduce this 20 percent enriched uranium to zero; reduce Iran’s low-enriched uranium stockpile by 98 percent; reduce the number of Iran’s centrifuges that are currently installed by two-thirds; and limit the types of centrifuges that Iran can use to enrich uranium. That means the pathway to a bomb through highly enriched uranium will be shut down."

Award-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote in The Guardian in 2012 that the real reason the U.S. opposes Iran having a nuclear weapon is that it would serve as a deterrent against U.S. attacks.

Greenwald noted that Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina backed up this theory by stating in an interview about Iran, "They have two goals: one, regime survival. The best way for the regime surviving, in their mind, is having a nuclear weapon, because when you have a nuclear weapon, nobody attacks you."
