Rachel Maddow: ‘Fringe’ GOP Who Caused Shutdown Live In Another Reality (VIdeo)

MSNB host Rachel Maddow said Friday that the “fringe” Republicans responsible for the government shutdown live a different reality and if we don’t appreciate that we can’t develop “reasonable expectations” of what they’ll do next.

“If this was normal Democrats versus normal Republicans, this would be resolved bu now,” Maddow said Friday on the “Rachel Maddow Show.”

Maddow talked about “birther” Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who was elected in 2012, “long after most of the birther movement had folded up their long-form birth certificates and gone home.”

Maddow said fringe Republicans like Meadows see the world through a different lens than the rest of us and they don’t care if their polling number plummet.

“Where this crisis is coming from is not a mainstream place,” she said. “The mainstream and the rest of politics are playing with a different deck of cards than the guys who started this thing.”

“I don’t mean it in a derogatory way,” she added. “I mean it in a descriptive way. They have a different set of values. They have a different sense of what is normal, a different sense of what counts as reasonable politics in America. And failing to appreciate that means we fail to develop reasonably accurate expectations for their behavior.”

She claims that they aren't going to be afraid of the numbers. Despite GOP approval hitting an all time low, she said, they will claim, “Those polls are skewed. We have own poll!”

She said Heritage Foundation president Jim Demint even refuses to even admit that there is a government shutdown.

“As the temporary slowdown in government operations enters its second week,” Demint began an open letter to President Obama this week.

"There's no way to make predictions now," she said, "without finding out where this all started."
