Pro-Gun Jesse Kelly Wins GOP Nom for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' Seat

Publish date:

Pro-gun Republican Jesse Kelly, a Tea Party favorite, won the GOP nomination primary on Tuesday, to fill the House seat left vacant by the resignation of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who was shot in the head in 2011.

Kelly will face former Giffords district manager Ron Barber in a June 12th special election.

In his unsuccessful 2010 campaign for the same seat, Kelly hosted an M16 automatic weapons shooting campaign event (see below) to help supporters “get on target” to “help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office.”

Months later, a gunman went on a shooting spree at a community event in Tuscon, Arizona, which left six dead and a dozen wounded, including Rep. Giffords and Barber.

Rep. Giffords resigned her seat in January 2012 to focus on her recovery.
