A group of armed protesters gathered at the 'Firearm Freedom Rally' at the Washington State Capitol on Saturday to defend their right to bear arms (video below).
Washington’s 'open carry' law does not prohibit carrying firearms on the capitol grounds, so the rally was legal.
According to KING 5 News, about 200 people participated in the event, which was organized by the group '2nd Enforcers.'
The 2nd Enforcers claim that many of the 30 gun-related bills being considered by the state legislature are a threat to Second Amendment rights.
The proposed bills would expand background checks, make leaving a loaded gun in a location accessible to children a crime, allow cities to prohibit guns at parks or recreational facilities, and ban guns from school campuses.
The 2nd Enforcers support another proposed bill, the 'Firearms Freedom Act of 2013,' which states that firearms in Washington State are “not subject to federal law or federal regulation” and would make attempting to enforce federal gun laws a felony crime.
However, that proposed law would violate the Supremacy Clause in the U.S. Constitution, which basically states that federal law trumps state law.
