White House spokesman Shin Inouye confirmed, today, that President Obama opposes the Boy Scouts’ policy of banning gays from joining, reports the Washington Blade.
Inouye sent this statement to the Washington Blade: “The President believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century. He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation.”
When Mitt Romney‘s campaign was asked about his position on the Boy Scouts' policy last Saturday, the campaign said that Romney’s position was the same as it was in 1994.
In 1994, Romney said: “I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”
