President Obama defended the international nuclear agreement with Iran during a speech today at American University in Washington D.C. (video below).
President Obama compared the "hardliners" in Iran who hate America and oppose the deal to Republicans who also oppose the agreement, notes Mediaite.com.
President Obama stated:
Just because Iranian hardliners chant "Death to America" does not mean that’s what all Iranians believe. In fact, it’s those ... in fact it's those hardliners who are most comfortable with the status quo. It’s those hardliners chanting "Death to America" who have been most opposed to the deal. They are making a common cause with the Republican caucus.
Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas called for bombing Iran on Tuesday.
According to The Times of Israel, Cotton told reporters in office:
You can destroy facilities. I don’t think any military expert in the United States or elsewhere would say the US military is not capable to setting Iran’s nuclear facilities back to day zero.
Can we eliminate it forever? No, because any advanced industrialized country can develop nuclear weapons in four to seven years, from zero. But we can set them back to day zero.
