Pope Asks Melania Trump What She Feeds President (Photo)

Pope Francis may have poked fun at President Donald Trump's weight.

That's what some people think after the pope joked with first lady Melania Trump about what she feeds her husband.

"What do you give him to eat?" the pope asked her in Italian. "Potica?"

Melania laughingly responded she did feed Trump potica, also called potizza, a Slovenian nut pastry.

The Vatican later explained the Pope, a potica fan, always brings it up whenever he meets a Slovenian person.

Still, social media users quickly rushed to comment on the pope's joke.

"Would expect a man of God to be honest so he's spot on....Trump is fat," said one Daily Mail reader.

"He is all those things that he has called other people...fat shamed many people," added another. "I guess he has no mirror's or its one of those circus ones that gives him the shape ....or maybe an evil mirror that tells him 'whose the fairest in the land…'"

Others defended Trump, claiming the Pope was fat-shaming -- and hypocritically so.

"Pope Francis, you cannot judge, your a bit hefty yourself...whatever happened to fasting?" added one user.

"He is overweight but unfortunately so is the majority of Americans are," noted another user. "7 out of 10 people are obese or overweight."

Some did not agree Pope Francis was commenting on Trump's weight and accused others of simply trying to berate the president again.

"Couldn't have anything to do with his height could it?" wrote one person. "And the fact that he towers over all of them. Another example of always trying to imply or take the negative aspect or view when it comes to trump."

The Trumps visited the pope as part of the president's first international tour.

During the meeting, the Vatican said they discussed the Middle East and "the protection of Christian communities" and "the joint commitment in favor of life, and freedom of worship and conscience," The New York Times reports.

Despite hostile comments traded in the past, the meeting went relatively well.

"It is with all hope that you may become an olive tree to make peace," the pope said to Trump.

While polite, the pope did not shy away from making his beliefs known, handing Trump his essay arguing against climate change skepticism.

"Today's visit with His Holiness Pope Francis is one I'll never forget," tweeted Melania Trump. "I was humbled by the honor. Blessings to all."

"'Honor of a lifetime to meet His Holiness Pope Francis," Trump said on his Twitter account when he left Rome. "I leave the Vatican more determined than ever to pursue PEACE in our world."
