According to a new Gallup poll, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is viewed most positively among Republican voters out of all 2016 GOP presidential candidates.
The poll, released Thursday, shows Rubio receiving a 52 percent favorability rating from potential GOP voters in the 2016 election. He was viewed unfavorably by 14 percent of those polled. In addition, 66 percent of voters said they were most familiar with Rubio out of the large field of Republican candidates.
The results came just before the first GOP presidential debate, which will air on Fox News on Thursday night.
Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin came in just behind Rubio, scoring 45 percent favorability amongst GOP voters and 7 percent unfavorability. He also garnered a 52 percent familiarity rating. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson came in third, scoring 42 percent favorability and 49 percent familiarity ratings.
The survey was conducted among 1,000 Republican and Republican-leaning Independents between July 22 and Tuesday of this week. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
