The first lady entered by taking the grand staircase, as three ballerinas danced to “The Nutcracker Suite.”
“Are you the first lady?!” a boy asked as he hugged Melania.
As the first lady entered, she made small talk with the young students from Joint Base Andrews.
“What are your plans for Christmas?” she asked. “Did you write your letter yet? Do you have any pets at home?”

While the children’s chaperone told them to “act natural,” they couldn’t contain their excitement when they saw the first lady, with many going up to give her a hug.
“She’s beautiful, like an angel!” one young boy exclaimed.
Last week, Melania was joined by son Barron for the Christmas Tree delivery to kick off the holiday season ahead of Thanksgiving.
Barron, 11, walked outside with First Lady Melania to inspect the 19.5-foot, Wisconsin-grown tree as it arrived at the North Portico.
The Chapman family, whose Silent Night Evergreens tree was selected by the association, happily posed for photos alongside the First Lady and her son.
