Obama Wouldn't Care if Al Qaeda Took Texas, Claims Rep. Trent Franks (Audio)

There has been worldwide condemnation over the death penalty imposed on Meriam Ibrahim, a Christian woman in the Sudan who recently gave birth to a baby in jail.

Ibrahim, who already has a 20-month-old son staying in her prison cell, was sentenced to death by hanging by local authorities for refusing to recant her Christian faith, noted The Telegraph.

In response to the situation, the U.S. State Department said in a statement on May 15, "We are deeply disturbed over the sentencing today of Meriam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag to death by hanging for apostasy... We continue to call upon the Government of Sudan to respect the right to freedom of religion, a right which is enshrined in Sudan’s own 2005 Interim Constitution as well as international human rights law."

There may also be behind-the-scenes efforts by the Obama administration to free Ibrahim, but Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) suggested yesterday that Obama doesn't care about Ibrahim and would even allow Al Qaeda to invade Texas, noted (audio below).

“I wonder if this administration would worry if Al Qaeda took Texas,” Rep. Franks told the Family Research Council’s Washington Watch radio show yesterday. “He might say it’s none of our business. It’s just really starting to be something that frightens me terribly and I think it is indicative of why this administration has been so soft on trying to protect religious freedom here.”
