The head of President Obama's reelection campaign is not mincing words when it comes to the leading Republican nominees, especially frontrunner Newt Gingrich.
The New York Daily News reports that speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, chief strategist David Axelrod used some colorful language to describe Gingrich's rise in the polls and his eventual downfall.
"The higher a monkey climbs up a pole the more you see of his butt," Axelrod said. "The Speaker is very high up the pole right now and we'll have to see if people enjoy the view."
Axelrod admitted he repurposed the line from an old comment a Chicago alderman made years ago.
Axelrod also had harsh words for Romney, who Alexrod said appears desperate to win approval from the extreme right wing of the GOP.
"He's done everything short of setting himself on fire to try to win admission to the other (conservative) club," Axelrod said.
Of course, Axelrod predicted Obama will win a second term against whoever emerges from the Republican fray.
