New York City police arrested four men Wednesday night for what they describe as a plot to carry out jihad. Authorities allege that the suspects had planned to bomb at least two synagogues in the Bronx and had plans to shoot down planes at a nearby Air National Guard base. In statements to the police the men said the attacks were an attempt to start jihad in retaliation for U.S. military actions in Afghanistan and that they hoped Jews died in the attacks.
The four men arrested are all Muslim and had met in jail, where they began discussing a terrorist strikes. So far authorities believe that the men acted alone and have no direct connection to an international terrorist group.
