North Carolina Man's Obituary Outlines Request In Lieu Of Flowers: Don't Vote For Hillary Clinton

A North Carolina family who lost a beloved elder made one request in his obituary in lieu of flowers — don’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Larry Upright, an 81-year-old from Cabarrus, North Carolina, died on Monday while in the hospital. In his obituary, Upright’s family described his accomplishments throughout his life, adding that his pride and joy was his family, and that “he will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and Granddaddy.” Upright, a passionate Republican, was also honored in the obituary by the special request.

“In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children,” the obituary read. “Also, the family respectfully asks that you do not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. R.I.P. Granddaddy."

Friends and mourners left condolences in an online guest book, stating their intentions to honor the family’s wishes.

“Our deepest sympathy to the entire family," a mourner wrote.“We promise not to vote for Hillary."

“God Bless,” another said. “We would not vote for Hillary if she was the only one running."

Even strangers signed the guest book and offered their condolences while pledging to respect the family’s request.

“I am a stranger and I do not know you or your departed. However, I saw the obit and wanted to express my condolences and to let you know that your sense of humor is wonderful," one person wrote. "Please know that we will not be voting for Hillary. Blessings to you and your family."

Upright’s son, Mike Upright, said the request was all in good fun and meant as a nod to his father’s strong political beliefs. “We know he’s up there giggling right now,” he said.“Just laughing out loud.”
