Mississippi Tea Party Candidate Jokes About Minorities (Audio)

Recordings of Tea Party favorite Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R) joking about minorities have recently surfaced.

McDaniel, who is currently challenging U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), was also caught on tape making disparaging remarks about black people earlier this year.

The Wall Street Journal, which posted the newly-found audio, reports that McDaniel made these remarks while appearing on a radio program in late 2006 or early 2007 (audio below).

“There’s a white woman, and she’s holding down a black woman [in an ad]," said McDaniel. "The world’s gone nuts. Listen to this. Minority groups in California screaming that the image is racist. ‘San Francisco politician Tom LeLand says ‘It’s racially charged, unnecessary and clearly offensive to our community.’ Well, she wasn’t holding down a gay guy.”

According to TalkingPointsMemo.com, in another segment, McDaniel states, "If they pass reparations [to black people], and my taxes are going up, I ain’t paying taxes... How you gonna make me pay for something that I had nothing to do with? How you gonna do that to me? I don't get it."

McDaniel also asks someone in the studio to translate the following in Spanish, "Do you have a sister?"

“What about mamacita?” asked McDaniel. “Mamacita works….I’m an English-speaking Anglo. I have no idea what it means, actually, but I’ve said it a few times, just for, you know, fun. And I think it basically means, ‘Hey, hot mama.’ Or, you know, ‘You’re a fine looking young thing.’”

In response to the recordings, McDaniel's spokesman Noel Fritsch told The Wall Street Journal, "The liberal press clearly loves to attack conservatives of all types. When Chris got into this race he knew they would throw mud, so it’s no surprise they’d dredge up decade-old comments made on conservative talk radio."

However, The Wall Street Journal is hardly the "liberal press," but is owned by Fox News CEO Rupert Murdoch.
