Mike Huckabee predicted today on his radio show that President Obama would resign over a supposed “cover-up” of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya (audio below).
Huckabee claimed that the "cover-up" was “more serious than Watergate," reported Politico.com.
“I believe that before it’s all over, this president will not fill out his full term. I know that puts me on a limb,” Huckabee claimed. “But this is not minor. It wasn’t minor when Richard Nixon lied to the American people and worked with those in his administration to cover-up what really happened in Watergate."
"But, I remind you, as bad as Watergate was, because it broke the trust between the president and the people, no one died. This is more serious because four Americans did in fact die.”
However, Huckabee added a disclaimer that his prediction about President Obama “will not happen” if the Democrats have control of the House and Senate in 2014.
“The highest levels of people in the United States government all the way up to the president knew that what they did tell us was not true,” said Huckabee. “And they continued to tell it throughout an election season and beyond, and they’ve tried to change the subject. And when the facts come out, they will not be able to stand. They will have lost the right to govern.”
“When a president lies to the American people and is part of a cover-up, he cannot continue to govern,” Huckabee declared. “And as the facts come out, I think we’re going to see something startling. And before it’s over, I don’t think this president will finish his term unless somehow they can delay it in Congress past the next three and a half years.”
Huckabee made the same Benghazi and "Watergate" comparison back in September 2012, reported ThinkProgress.org.
“We have been flat-out lied to,” Huckabee said on Fox News in 2012. “They know they lied. As if airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center said those were just accidents. Anybody with two eyes and an IQ above plant life knows what happened in Libya was not a spontaneous reaction to a 13-minute video on YouTube."
Huckabee did not mention that the motive behind the attack on the Benghazi, Libya consulate actually rests with the attackers themselves, who have not stated a reason for the attack.
Today, House Republicans released portions of an interview with State Department whistle-blower Gregory Hicks who told investigators that U.S. forces were prepared to fly in to provide support to the Benghazi embassy, but were told to stand down, reports TheHill.com.
Hicks' claim contradicts previous testimony from Obama administration officials who said all available resources were called upon.
