Mike Huckabee, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, recently defended a transgender joke that he made at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) convention back in February.
A video of the speech only recently surfaced, and features Huckabee joking about how he would have pretended to be transgender in order to take showers with girls in high school.
Huckabee was asked about the joke by conservative Iowa radio show host Steve Deace last Friday, noted RightwingWatch.org (video below).
And by the way Steve, I take nothing back from that speech. I’m kind of glad it’s posted because people, if they watch the whole clip, what they’re going to see is that I’m giving a commonsense answer to the insanity that’s going on out there.
Because I hear people, everybody wants to be politically correct, everybody wants to be loved by the media and loved by the left and loved by the elitists.
But, you know, I know I’m not going to be, so let me just get it over with. I’d rather be a commonsense candidate for people who did take their brains to work today.
Another Iowa radio host, Simon Conway, recently suggested that Huckabee doesn't want to come on his radio show because he (Huckabee) doesn't want to talk about defending the Duggar family, reports Talking Points Memo.
Conway stated on radio station WHO in Des Moines, Iowa:
This is not something I want to see swept under the carpet. And maybe that’s why Gov. Huckabee, who came out and supported them, does not wish to come on my show right now. Maybe that’s why, I don’t know. Maybe it’s just coincidence. Whatever it is, we will ultimately get to talk to him again and we will talk about this.
