Mike Bloomberg, Tom Menino to Star in Anti-Gun Super Bowl Ad

New York City Mayor and noted anti-gun activist Michael Bloomberg will appear in a public service ad that will run on Sunday's Super Bowl.

The New York Post reports Bloomberg taped the ad this week with Boston Mayor Tom Menino. The stars aligned for this -- both are co-chairs of Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and their teams -- the Giants and Patriots -- are playing in the big game. In fact, they worse jerseys of their teams during the shoot.

"It was very funny," Blommberg said. "You should take a look at it."

"A New York-Boston Super Bowl is a perfect opportunity for the mayors to talk about fixing the nation's backround check system that allow criminals and dangerous people to buy guns illegally," said Bloomberg spokesman Marc LaVorgna.

The ad will air in selected markets during the game.

It's not known how much running the ad will cost, but a national 30-second spot costs $3.5 million. The gun group, which Bloomberg mostly funds out of his multi-billion dollar personal fortune, will pick up the tab.
