Rep. Michele Bachmann has voted for a bill that would defund AmeriCorps -- a service she doesn't like, and one that her son joined.
Harrison Bachmann went to work for the AmeriCorps program Teach for America in 2009, which specializes in placing educators in troubled schools and communities.
But Bachmann voted along with her GOP colleagues to approve H.R. 1, which defunds AmeriCorps for a savings of $373 million, in addition to cutting many other programs.
The Democratic-controlled Senate has yet to take up the bill.
As for AmeriCorps, here is what Bachmann has previously said about it:
I believe that there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service. And the real concerns is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically-correct forums. As a parent, I would have a very, very difficult time seeing my children do this.
