In the middle of a sea of black clothing, first lady Melania Trump arrived at President Donald Trump's first State of the Union Address on Jan. 30, wearing a cream-colored pantsuit that garnered much praise on Capitol Hill. Before the president entered the room to address the joint session of Congress, Melania Trump was captured by various reporters smiling broadly and waving, as she was photographed in her off-white suit.
It didn't take much time for the internet to explode with comments about the personality, expressions and fashion choices of Melania Trump. Some even said her face is a "mood board" for 2018.
According to the New York Post, the first lady's much-acclaimed outfit, the off-white wide-legged pantsuit, was paired with a pair of coordingating heels and a silk blouse to finish off her elegant look.
In the past, Melania Trump has generally been seen wearing all black for her husband’s formal speeches. On Feb. 28, 2017, when Donald Trump first gave his joint session address to Congress, she wore black. But things weren’t quite the same in 2018 when Melania decided to make a major change in her choice of color for her outfit.
Democratic women from Congress decided to protest against sexual harassment by wearing all black to Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address. But Melania Trump seemed to be on a different track and chose to ditch the black outfit for the day.
After President Donald Trump was accused of allegedly having his lawyer pay off a porn star to deny allegations they had an affair in 2006, it was Melania’s first public appearance with her husband in several weeks. She had skipped the president's trip to Davos, Switzerland, which many interpreted as a rebuke.
As the Inquisitr reported, adult film star Stormy Daniels issued a new statement before the speech that said all the parties involved have denied the affair and also denied that any "hush money" was paid.
Melania Trump likely used her fashion choices to send a subtle message to her husband when she chose to wear the off-white pantsuit, which raised a lot of buzz on social media. The first lady also seemed to have broken the traditional fashion rule of not wearing white in winter. Some consider her style choice of wearing "winter white" a bold and daring one.
Twitter was also flooded with comments from the public on how similar the wardrobe of Melania Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might seem. It is widely known that former first lady Hillary Clinton wears a lot of pantsuits, especially white and off-white pantsuits. Similarly, unlike the Democratic women members of Congress, Melania Trump chose to wear white, which some consider a tribute to Hillary Clinton, or possibly the suffragettes, who wore white while protesting for women's right to vote.
"Melania wore all white pant suit... Yes, a Pant Suit!!!" one commenter wrote. "Hillary much?"
"Melania enters wearing a white pants suite," commented another. "A subtle tribute to HilaryClinton? Or maybe a tribute to the suffragettes?"
