McCain Predicts Obama Will Be Impeached If He Puts ‘Boots On The Ground’ In Syria

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said “boots on the ground” in Syria would mean impeachment for President Barack Obama, although he endorses the president’s plan for military strikes.

“No one wants American boots on the ground. Nor will there be American boots on the ground, because there would be an impeachment of the president if they did that,” McCain told Phoenix radio host Mike Broomhead on KYFI on Thursday.

McCain appeared on the radio show after two town hall meetings in which many of his constituents pleaded against military action.

“We didn’t send you to make war for us. We sent you to stop the war,” one man told McCain.

McCain told KYFI he understood hesitation by many Americans but asked they they “look at the facts.”

“The fact is Bashar Assad has massacred 100,000 people” he said. “The conflict is spreading … Iraq has now become a haven for al Qaeda and the violence is greater than in 2008, the Russians are all in, the Iranians are all in, and it’s an unfair fight.”

McCain has been critical of the president for not acting sooner and for waiting on Congressional approval to launch a strike.

“It’s common sense you don’t warn them and give them plenty of time to disperse,” McCain said.
