Matthew McConaughey has offered some surprising advice regarding President Donald Trump.
People magazine reports that McConaughey was interviewed about his upcoming film, "Gold," by BBC One's "The Andrew Marr Show." The interviewer was quick to point out how McConaughey's new film involves "redneck America sticking one up to the snotty East Coast elites."
McConaughey, in response, shared his thoughts on the new American president.
"He's our president now," McConaughey said. "We must embrace, shake hands and be constructive with him."
Some might find that advice shocking coming from a Hollywood A-list celebrity -- especially since most of them have been vehemently opposed to Trump and his policies.
As The Washington Times points out, many celebrities, including Ashton Kutcher, took an opportunity at the SAG Awards to bash Trump's new policy of a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries.
“My wife came to this country on a refugee visa in the middle of the Cold War! My blood is boiling right now!” Kutcher said. “We have never been a nation built on fear. Compassion that is the root ethic of America.”
Many celebrities agree with that sentiment, including Ashley Judd, Whoopi Goldberg, Madonna, and Michael Moore -- all of whom have bashed Trump and his policies in recent days.
But McConaughey seems to be bucking the trend. Asked if America needs to give Trump a chance, McConaughey responded, "Well, they don't have a chance."
Will his olive branch affect his acting career? Only time will tell..
