The Kennedy Curse continues.
Despite a lack of mega-watt political power on the national stage, the infamous Kennedy clan has suffered yet another untimely death.
Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead in her Mount Kisco, New York home. According to TMZ, Kennedy was found by the Bedford Police Department.
A cause of death isn't known at this time -- although "suicide" had been listed on Wikipedia until it disappeared from the site. The New York Daily News has published a story saying Kennedy was found hanged behind the house. Yet a lawyer for Mary Kennedy contradicts that report, saying it was an “unattended death” in the New York City suburb.
The Bedford Police issued the following statement as well: "On May 16, 2012 at approximately 1:36pm the Bedford Police Department responded to 326 South Bedford Rd in this jurisdiction to investigate a possible unattended death. Responding officers confirm that a deceased individual had been located inside an out building on that property. At this time the Bedford Police Department is not releasing the identity of that individual until notification to family members has been made. This incident will continue to be investigated by the Bedford Police Deaprtment with assistance from the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office."
A statement from Mary Kennedy's family read: "We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time."
Late son of Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy, Robert Jr. and Mary Kennedy filed for divorce in 2010 after 16 years of marriage. Three days after the split, Mary Kennedy was arrested for drunk driving.
She was arrested again three months later, this time for driving under the influence of drugs.
The couple had four children together.
This wasn't the first marriage for RFK Jr. He previously wed Emily Black in 1980 before getting divorced in 1984. The pair had two children during that relationship.
