Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal Pushes Muslim 'No-Go Zones' Myth (Video)

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), who may run for president in 2016, has been claiming that Muslim immigrants have created so-called “no-go zones” in Europe.

According to Religion News, Gov. Jindal released a speech last week that he planned to give today in London. Part of the speech read:

“In the West, non-assimilationist Muslims establish enclaves and carry out as much of Sharia law as they can without regard for the laws of the democratic countries which provided them a new home. It is startling to think that any country would allow, even unofficially, for a so called ‘no-go zone.’ The idea that a free country would allow for specific areas of its country to operate in an autonomous way that is not free and is in direct opposition to its laws is hard to fathom.”

This theory of Muslim "no-go zones" where non-Muslims cannot go and police are likely not to enforce the law because the areas are governed by Islamic sharia law has been repeated on Fox News.

Bloomberg Business Week reported last week that the "no-go zones" do not exist in the UK or France, but added that there are 750 "sensitive" neighborhoods marked for urban renewal and financial aid because of the high poverty and crime rates.

Fox News issued a rare retraction on Jan. 17 and said there was no "credible evidence" of "no-go zones," noted MediaMatters.org (video below).

However, Gov. Bobby Jindal refused to back down when asked about "no-go zones" today in London when he was asked by CNN reporter and London resident Max Foster, reports Mediaite.com (video below).

“Look, I’ve heard it from folks here there are neighborhoods where women don’t feel comfortable going in without veils,” stated Gov. Jindal. “That’s wrong. We all know there are neighborhoods where police are less likely to go into those neighborhoods.”

However, Gov. Jindal didn't name these 'folks" who gave him this information, a point that Foster brought up.

“You need to have proper, sort of, facts to back that up,” stated Foster. "I've lived here a long time, I don't know of any no-go zones for non-Muslims."

Gov. Jindal countered, "There are people here in London who will tell you that there are neighborhoods where the women don't feel safe walking through those neighborhoods without veils."

When Foster pressed again for specific areas, Gov. Jindal did not name one area.

Gov. Jindal, who mentioned Muslims in his speech, claimed it was the "Left" that brought religion into the issue.

“I know the Left wants to make this into an attack on religion and that’s not what this is,” claimed Gov. Jindal. “What we are saying it’s absolutely is an issue for the UK, absolutely is an issue for America and other European and Western nations.”
