Joy Behar sparked controversy when she proclaimed how sorry she felt for first lady Melania Trump that she has to sleep with President Donald Trump (video below).
"I feel sorry for her," Behar responded when "Late Night with Seth Meyers" host Seth Meyers asked Behar if she judged Melania or sympathized with her, reports Mediaite. "She had to sleep with him once. At least once, she did."
"And then when she was in New York and we had to pay a million dollars a day to keep her here just because she doesn’t want to sleep with him, we had to pay for that," she added. "I didn’t like that."
To that, Meyers joked, "Because I don’t want to sleep with him, but nobody gives me extra money."
"Exactly right!" Behar responded.
While Behar and Meyers found the conversation amusing, social media users were enraged.
"Wow...Joy is NOT a good example to 13 year old girls who like to bully the other girls," commented one Mediaite reader. "She is doing the very same thing that adults tell those children is unacceptable, destructive behavior."
"Attacking the First Lady's sex life," added another. "What a thoroughly disgusting, classless puke this woman is."
Washington Times writer Cheryl K. Chumleyeven wrote a piece blasting Behar for the comments.
"Joy Behar’s biggest claim to fame is as a comedian -- we get that," she wrote. "But poking fun of the president’s and first lady’s sex life? Come on. That’s just tasteless, tactless, juvenile, grasping at relevancy, gasping for attention and -- and, well, stupid."
Yet Chumley, like many of those criticizing Behar for her remarks, also condemned all liberals.
"Beheadings and sex jokes -- the Democrats’ go-to points when their political messages aren’t resonating," she added.
Others seemed to have no problem with Behar's words. Many just took it as a joke, and a few defended her.
"Artificial insemination," jested one. "Had to be."
"Behar is being over-dramatic," a second joked. "There's no way Trump lasted more than 5 minutes before dozing off with a wheezing snore.
"That was a good one," added a third. "Thanks, Joy."
"All of these attacks on Joy are deplorable," shot back a forth.
Others went even further than Behar about Melania.
"Eh," wrote one. "She has free will. This is her choice. And she's lived in the lap of luxury for 20 years because of that choice. On my list of people to feel sorry about, she's very low."
