Jordan’s King Abdullah II is vowing to get revenge against ISIS after they burned a Jordanian pilot alive, and reports say that the king, a trained pilot, may actually lead the airstrikes himself.
The world watched in collective horror recently as ISIS released footage of a Jordanian pilot being burned alive by militants, and in response, Jordan’s King Abdullah II has vowed to wage a “harsh” war against the terrorist group.
The Jordanian king said in a statement that the war “will be harsh because this terrorist organization is not only fighting us, but also fighting Islam and its pure values.”
Abdullah, a former general, reportedly told members of Congress that he wanted to lead the airstrikes himself and even used a line from a Clint Eastwood movie character to prove his point.
“Any man I see out there, I'm gonna kill him,” says the Clint Eastwood character William Munny in “Unforgiven," as reportedly echoed by Abdullah. “Any son of a bitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only going to kill him, I'm going to kill his wife and all his friends and burn his damn house down.”
California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter made the initial claims that Abdullah quoted the Eastwood character while speaking to lawmakers about his revenge plans.
“He said there is going to be retribution like ISIS hasn't seen,” Hunter told The Washington Examiner. “He's angry. They're starting more sorties tomorrow than they've ever had. They're starting tomorrow. And he said, ‘The only problem we're going to have is running out of fuel and bullets.’ He's ready to get it on. He really is. It reminded me of how we were after 9/11. We were ready to give it to them.”
Hunter says that President Obama was not mentioned by anyone during the meeting between lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee and Abdullah, but the administration has reportedly announced a $1 billion aid package for Jordan in response to the pilot’s killing.
