Jeb Bush to ‘Meet the Press’ Host David Gregory: You Guys are Crack Addicts (Video)

Publish date:

Jeb Bush has had a rough few days.

After spending the better part of the last five years working on little side projects outside the public’s line of vision, Bush, 60, made his less than triumphant return to the mainstream political scene this week by changing his position on immigration reform.

In the wrong direction, no less.

Prior to the release of his new book, Bush had been regarded as one of the Republican Party’s foremost thinkers on how to at least contend with Democrats on the subject of immigration reform. However, in "Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution," the former governor opted to move to the right and flip-flop on a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. The timing for this shift in philosophy was less than ideal, as it completely goes against what Senate Republicans are trying to pass.

On Sunday, Bush continued bumbling and stumbling through his return to the Republican main stage by awkwardly accusing  ‘Meet the Press’ host David Gregory of being a ‘crack addict’ when he was asked about possibly running against Marco Rubio for the Republican nomination in four years.

"Man, you guys are crack addicts," he said.

When Gregory noted that he had never been called that before, Bush replied: "You really are obsessed with all this politics... okay, heroin addict. Is that better?"

In total, Bush appeared on five Sunday shows today – clearly trying to undo some of the damage from his self-inflicted wound earlier in the week. It remains to be seen whether any or all of this will have a real impact on his presidential hopes this far out from the 2016 race.
