Jeb Bush Claims 'Immigrants Are More Fertile' (Video)

During a speech today at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference in Washington D.C., former Florida governor, Jeb Bush (R), claimed “immigrants are more fertile” (video below).

Bush was trying to make a case for immigration reform, which many in his party oppose.  He also pushed the idea that America needed more immigrants to care for the elderly.

“We’re going to have fewer workers taking care of a larger number of people that the country has a social contract with to be able to allow them to retire with dignity and purpose," Bush said. "We cannot do that with the fertility rates that we have in our country. We’re below break-even today."

According to, Bush's plan has a back door self-interested angle, which includes making immigrants "play by our rules" and "embrace our values" to "create more opportunities for all of us. This is a conservative idea.”

Bush added: “Immigrants create far more businesses than native-born Americans over the last 20 years. Immigrants are more fertile. And they love families and they have more intact families and they bring a younger population.”

However, there is no scientific proof that immigrants are biologically more "fertile" than native-born Americans, but it could be argued that some immigrants choose to have larger families, while younger native-born Americans limit the size of their families and use more birth control.

Bush also advocated securing the border and creating a “path to legal status” for the undocumented immigrants who are now in the United States, but did not say what that "path" would be.
