A 29-year-old Democratic campaign strategist died Wednesday after allegedly being stabbed by the individual who was the best man at her wedding.
Jamie Kirk Hahn and her husband, Nation Richard Hahn, were both taken to the hospital after being stabbed at their home in Raleigh, N.C., but she was unable to survive the attack.
Jonathan Wayne Broyhill, 31, was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but now he will also be charged with murder, according to The Huffington Post.
Jamie recently founded the firm Sky Blue Strategies and worked for many Democrat candidates in North Carolina. Nation, 27, was also a Democrat strategist who was known within political circles. It has been reported that Broyhill worked at Sky Blue Strategies. Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Miller hired the firm in 2010. Apparently he worked with Broyhill:
“Some of the things that Jon said about the campaign finances were inconsistent with other information,” Miller said. “It’s probably the case that Jamie was asking questions on behalf of the campaign about campaign finances. I think it’s bound to be part of the investigation of Jon’s motive.”
Jamie Hahn's family released a statement about her death on Wednesday:
"We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend," they said. "We all lost a pure and brave spirit. She had a gift for bringing us together -- black and white, young and old, gay and straight. She challenged us to work together for a better world."
Nation went on Twitter to share his feelings about the tragedy.
“I have no idea what I am going to do without @jamiehahn. She was my center, my rock and my soulmate,” he wrote.
In a later post, he said this:
“It is almost unfathomable that the sun can shine without @jamiehahn here. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you daily.”
