Ivanka Trump Taken Aback By 'Viciousness' In D.C.

Ivanka Trump said during an interview with "Fox & Friends" on June 12 that she hadn't anticipated the "viciousness" of Washington politics.

"There's a level of viciousness that I was not expecting," Ivanka said of her own experience as a public official, according to Fox News. "I was not expecting the intensity of this experience."

"But this isn't supposed to be easy," she added. "My father and this administration expects to be transformative."

Ivanka went on to say that she was caught off guard by the personal nature of some of the criticism directed at her and her father.

"Some of the distractions and some of the ferocity, I was a little blindsided by on a personal level," she explained.

She also commented on how her father felt about testimony by former FBI Director James Comey before the Senate intelligence committee, during which he stated that the president was not personally targeted by the FBI's investigation into possible collusion with Russia.

"My father felt very vindicated in all the statements that he's been making and feels incredibly optimistic," Ivanka said. "With all the noise, with all the intensity of media coverage and obviously what makes headlines, ultimately, we're really focused on why the American people elected Donald Trump as president."

"But for me, I'm trying to keep my head down, not listen to the noise and just work really hard to make a positive impact in the lives of many people," she continued, according to CNN. "At the end of the day, if you want to think about difficult, it's the factory worker who's been laid off. Difficult is the mother who lost a child to opioid abuse. So these are the real challenges and I think that does put it in perspective."

When asked about her husband, Jared Kushner, Ivanka said he "loves" his role as senior adviser to the president despite increased pressure on him from the media.

"There is a 24-hour news cycle that gets fed by and is encouraged by lots of salacious details," she said. "But at the end of the day, we're all focused on the work, and that's very true for Jared. He's somebody who just likes to get things done so he doesn't get involved in sort of all of that."

Kushner was thrown into the media spotlight when it was announced that he had attempted to set up a secret channel of communication between the Trump transition team and Moscow. Kushner denies any wrongdoing.
