'I Trust Her With My Life': Bill Clinton Gives Rare Glimpse Into Relationship With Hillary

Former President Bill Clinton gave a rare look into his relationship with wife and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Clinton opened up about his marriage and the role his wife plays in their family.

“Whenever I had trouble, she was a rock in our family,” he said. “I trust her with my life, and have on more than one occasion.”

He described the former Secretary of State as someone who has believed in him through some of the toughest moments in his political career, adding that she stood by him when he was “plagued with self-doubt” in his late 20s.

“I was the youngest former governor in American history in 1980 on election night. I got killed in the Reagan landslide,” he said. “People I had appointed to office would walk across the street, they were so afraid of the new regime in Arkansas, and would not shake hands with me. My career prospects were not particularly bright.

"And she never blinked," he recounted. "She just said, 'Hey. It'll turn around. I believe in you. You've got this.'"

Though the couple rarely sheds light on their relationship, Hillary Clinton herself opened up about it in her memoir "Living History."

“The most difficult decisions I have made in my life were to stay married to Bill and to run for the Senate from New York,” Clinton wrote when discussing her husband’s affair with White House intrern Monica Lewinsky and his impeachment trial.

Though Clinton has been on the road campaigning since announcing her candidacy, she told voters last month that she and her husband speak regularly.

“I talk to him on the phone a lot,” she said.
