After suffering from a fall, head injury, and blood clot, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may now be seeing double as closeups reveal she was wearing special glasses on Wednesday.
When Clinton testified about the September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, she was wearing a pair of glasses that had tiny vertical lines etched into the left lens.
Experts say that the vertical lines are from a Fresnel prism. This type of prism is an adhesive, which can be cut and placed over lenses. They're only used to treat double vision and sometimes to treat eye muscle weakness.
"If she's wearing a Fresnel prism, then she has double vision without it," said Dr. Mark Fromer, medical director of Fromer Eye Centers.
The prism helps bring images into focus when the eye sees double.
Another doctor agreed that the only reason she would be wearing the prism is if she had double vision.
"That's the only thing I can think of with vertical lines in there," he said. "If you can see it, it's more like a stick-on that's temporary--that you can peel off."
She suffered from a fall and concussion less than a month ago, and was later hospitalized for a blood clot near her brain.
