Former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was booed by a sizable crowd outside Swansea University in Wales, where she was awarded an honorary doctorate on Oct. 14 (video below).
At one point, some in the crowd repeatedly screamed "fascist" at Clinton as she made her way out of her vehicle and into the university, reports the Independent Journal Review.
The university, which renamed its law school Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, was presenting the award to Clinton for her work on behalf of families and children.
Clinton spoke of the effect Brexit was having on children in the U.K. during her acceptance speech, reports the Daily Mail.
"Teachers and schools are reporting an outbreak of bullying and racially motivated insults," she said. "Here in the U.K., divisive rhetoric and policy shifts are having their own effects. Right now, the residency rights of half a million children, including many who were born in the U.K., are hanging in the balance. So there are reports of children being worried, feeling uncertain, even unsafe."
She added: "The children's commissioners for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have already raised concerns that children's interests are getting short shrift in the Brexit process."
And while some applauded her sentiments and were pleased about her award, her presence and words were not welcome by all.
"Clinton has no place preaching to Britain after her failure in the Presidential race and what a bad loser to boot," wrote one person in the Daily Mail's comments section. "Terrible woman."
"Why [doesn't] she stop interfering in the internal affairs of another country," added another.
"I wonder if sometime in the future, jeering crowds of students will demand that the school be renamed for someone who actually had accomplishments beyond lying and enabling sex offenders, q.v. Yale, Harvard, any number of schools," commented a third.
A few came to her defense.
"Deplorables again show their ignorance and intolerance," shot back one. "Hillary is one of the most dedicated, honest and qualified politicians in our history. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Tony Blair, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel will be remembered centuries from now as great leaders."
"What cynical fools most of you are," commented another. "A respected and experienced politician actually tells you the truth for once and yet you diss it without even thinking about what she said for the simple reason that it was not what you wanted to hear. Don't bother looking to the future my friends. With your lack of common sense and education there is little chance of there being one."
